Project Summary

The Government of Lesotho is implementing the Smallholder Agriculture Development Project II (SADP II) with financial support from the World Bank, Government of Japan and the international Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Project covers ten districts of Lesotho:

  • Berea
  • Mafeteng
  • Mohale’s Hoek
  • Quthing
  • Qacha’s Nek

Project Vision

  • To introduce transformational changes in the agriculture sector by promoting solutions for agricultural productivity and resilience at farm and landscape levels.
  • To provide longer-term solutions at institutional level to ensure the sustainability of the outcomes achieved in the field.
  • To promote commercialization that would contribute to improved livelihoods.
  • To promote better nutritional outcomes towards improved human capital development.

Project Objectives

PDO Statement

The project development objective is to support the increased adoption of climate smart agricultural technologies in Lesotho’s agriculture, enhanced commercialization and improved dietary diversity among targeted beneficiaries.

PDO Level Indicators

The following key indicators will measure progress toward the PDO.  Additional gender and youth indicators will also be used as detailed in the Results Framework.

  • Land area brought under climate-smart agriculture and sustainable landscape management
  • Increased household commercialization levels in project area
  • Farmers adopting improved agricultural practices
  • Households with increased dietary diversity (disaggregated by women and children)
